PANTHEA OBSCURA #3 (OF FOUR)

WRITER: MIKE LUOMA
ART: JUAN CARLOS QUATTORDIO
LETTERING: PABLO LIZALDE

THE STORY:
DEIFORNICATION: PART THREE

Two thousand years ago the gods imposed collective amnesia on mankind, made us forget that they actually existed and lived and walked among us. The gods disappeared into myth and legend… and into the human population.

But The Deep persuaded the other gods they should let humankind remember them again. Mother opposed letting mortals remember, warning if the gods interfered actively with humankind, then their brother Troy, The Destroyer, would be free to do so as well. The collective amnesia of humanity has kept Troy's power in check, a happy side effect.

After the gods let mankind remember them, they must stop a madman on a rampage, a man possessed by Troy. As they rescue the victims of the madman’s spree, they reveal themselves to the world. The new heroes win their first encounter. But Troy continues to possess humans and lead them to slaughter. The other “gods” continue to try to stop him, and they begin to learn shocking secrets about each other!

Panthea Obscura 2 Out NOW!

October 17th - Mike Luoma proudly announces the release of Issue Two of Panthea Obscura on October 17th, 2007! Panthea Obscura is a four-issue comic book mini series created and written by Luoma and illustrated by Juan Carlos Quattordio.

Panthea Obscura tells the story of the old gods now returned. The gods of ancient myth actually existed, still do exist, but they made humankind forget they were real over two thousand years ago. In issue one the gods revealed themselves to the modern world, once again let humankind remember they were real.

Led by The Deep, once known as Poseidon among other names, most of the gods act like heroes, but Troy, once believed to be the gods of War and Death, now lurks in his underworld palace and possesses human beings made newly vulnerable to him by the other gods’ revelation. The other gods are doing their best to try to stop those Troy possesses when they run amok, kill people, and mindlessly mouth Troy’s mantra, “Too Many Morons!”

Panthea Obscura Issue #2 is available through Lulu.com.

Critical Acclaim!

Panthea Obscura is already drawing raves! Troy Brownfield of Newsarama was very kind:

Panthea Obscura: Deifornication #1: Brought to you by Mike Luoma, the guy who did the sublime Holy ____!: Or Pat Robertson Is The Anti-Christ, Panthea Obscura trades heavily on two trademarks that Luoma established in that earlier book: a fine eye for cultural weirdness, and lacerating humor. Once there were gods, and now the gods are suffering a bit of an existential crisis. Humanity’s kind of moved on, the and the Gods consider their role. What they decide is hilariously appropriate for the graphic form, and Luoma’s given himself a place from which to rain barbs down upon politics, religion, and comics itself. The art by Juan Carlos Quattordio is a bit rough, but succeeds on its appropriately indie-bred scrappiness. This is one to watch.
